Inspired by Venice – Acrylics

Venice is a beatiful location which has inspired artists from all over the world to make art. On this course you can create your own Venitian art while exploring a variety of approaches used by artists to capture the beauty of this city.

Jason will help you choose the right image to work from and talk through your aims and painting strategies to complete the picture. He will offer advice on how best to set out your image, unpick any troublesome perspective, advise on colour choices and help you take your art to a satisfying conclusion by discussing which details deserve greatest focus and where you might soften some sections to make a more visually pleasing image. He will of course be demonstrating a variety of ways to approach painting Venice which can be explored in quick exercises or within your finished artwork.

Why does Jason think this course would be of value to you as a painter ?

This course will help you render buildings, water, boats and people in acrylics with greater skill. You will gain more understanding of perspective and learn how edit and to ‘dumb down’ complex scenes so that you can paint them with greater ease. You will also be able to put together a number of visual triggers that help the viewer see Venice through a montage of symbols should you wish to explore more abstracted illustrations of the city.

What will you do on the course ?

  • Examine how to block out a scene, breaking it down into key shapes
  • Gain a greater understanding of how the scene can be constructed with a little more understanding of perspective
  • Explore how motifs can make the viewer see a location in their minds eye without need for accurately rendering a scene
  • Explore bold colour use
  • Create finished paintings of Venice you are proud of

What do you need to bring ?

Jason has a good number of images taken within Venice you can use on the course. These can be found at his website www.studio.jasonskill.com – Simply join studio to gain free use of the images needed for the class.

You will need to bring your usual acrylics painting kit, that you use at home, to class. In addition to this you will need to bring several sheets of kitchen roll and a few sheets of acrylic painting paper to work on.
