Jason Skill has taught several sketching holidays in the UK and Italy, so is well versed in the art of teaching budding artists to sketch with skill. Jason will teach you how to create artwork that is quick and effective, capturing the essence of a scene. You will learn how to edit an image down to its bare essentials, picking up only on the key details. Skills learnt on this course will then make you confident to take your sketch book away with you on holiday, or just when you are out and about and start building your own sketch book of memories.

Keeping a sketch book is a pleasurable experience. It’s fun to look back at your work later and re-live a little of what it felt like to live in that moment. Building a skill set that helps you make work that you are proud of enables you to enjoy working in your sketch book with more joy and enthusiasm.

What will you do on the course ?

• Examine the process of editing a scene – what to keep and what to miss out.
• Learn to build up a drawing in layers of pencil, watercolour and pen. Understanding how to make the best of each mediums characteristics.
• Look at a number of ways you can draw when are sketching
• Create a series of sketches from varied reference including figures, birds and animals, still life, buildings and landscapes.

What do you need to bring ?

On the first week of the course will need to bring a 2b pencil, biro, erasure, pencil sharpener a pad of drawing paper and a sketch book.
