Considered by many to be a bridge between drawing and painting, pen and wash was the ‘go to’ method in the past for artists looking for a way to quickly note down the structure and tone of a scene, in preperation for a painting or engraving. Pen and wash requires minimal equipment, so is a low cost way to take those first steps from drawing to painting.
