You don’t have to spend tens of hours working with a small paint brush to make distressed wood and steel look highly detailed. There are various watercolour tricks and techniques that can save you time. In this day workshop Jason will share his tricks of the trade, so that you can paint detailed textural watercolours with less effort.
During this workshop Jason will:
Provide a print of the image featured above to work from
Demonstrate a number of short cuts to help you illustrating rough wood and rust quickly.
In addition, he will paint alongside you, demonstrating each stage of the paintings production.

Is there public transport to Wylam?
Yes – There is a railway station in Wylam situated next to the River Tyne on the opposite bank to Wylam main village. The walk from the station is about a quarter of a mile.
Is there parking near to the institute ?
Free parking can be found directly outside the institute and in nearby streets.
What will you do in the afternoon workshop
12:30 Welcome – set up your kit and grab a free cup of tea or coffee
12:40 Demonstration of various methods of painting distressed wood and metal
1:00 Explore ideas shown in exercises
1:30 Draw out your painting
1:45 Jason begins painting demonstration of distressed wood and metal, to provide guidance regarding layering and tuning this type of painting. Students begin to follow ideas shown or adapt methods to suit their own images.
2:15 Tea or coffee break while first layer of paint dries
2:30 Jason continues to demonstrate the various stages required to complete a painting of distressed wood and metal. He will help you individually construct your own painting and think through the various stages of your picture to make the best image possible.
4:15 Finish off artwork and discuss the work as a group with a cuppa
4:30 End of workshop
